Parliaments in the Global South: Challenges and Transformations: Call for Papers
22:47 - By RCLS
RCLS is pleased to share this Call for Papers for an international workshop on legislative politics in the Global South, organized by Professor Khemvirgh Puente in collaboration with the Research Committee 08 (Legislative Specialists) of the International Political Science Association (IPSA), with the support of the Mexican Political Science Association (AMECIP), and hosted at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

The workshop will take place on October 6–7, 2026, in a hybrid format (Mexico City and online via Zoom). It aims to bring together scholars working on legislatures across Africa, Latin America, West Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and other regions of the Global South.
The workshop focuses on the challenges and transformations of parliaments operating under conditions such as democratic erosion, executive dominance, institutional constraints, and declining public trust. It is also conceived as a book-oriented project, with the goal of developing an edited volume with a leading academic publisher.
We welcome contributions from a wide range of perspectives and approaches, including comparative, interdisciplinary, and practice-oriented research on legislative politics.
Key dates:
– Abstract submission (300–500 words): July 31, 2026
– Workshop: October 6–7, 2026
– Final chapter submission: January 22, 2027
Abstracts can be submitted through this form
